The Expendables 2 Cast Unveiled2

chuck-norrisThere’s no denying that cast of original The Expendables was comprised of one of the most impressive gatherings of leading action-men the genre has ever seen, and appears as though the forthcoming sequel is going to continue this tradition, all the while adding a few more enticing additions to up the ante even further.

David Varod, CEO of NU Boyana, a studio in Bulgaria where the film will be shot, spilt the beans on the casting details to Novinite, effectively announcing who else we can expect to be joining the original cast members.

The Expenadables 2 cast is now set to feature: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Bruce Willis.

Most of these names don’t come as a huge surprises since we obviously expected the bulk of the team to reprise their roles once again, but Travolta, Norris and Van Damme? That’s just flat out awesome! Plus it’ll be intresting to see whether Schwarzenegger will feature more heavily this time around.

Either way, with a cast like that, The Expendables 2 seems to be shaping up very nicely. Consider me officially excited. I only hope that this sequel can address some of the notable flaws that were present the first time around, namely the lack of any form of coherent plot….

Directed by Simon West (Con Air, The Mechanic), The Expendables 2 is due to explode into theaters on August 17, 2012.

The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal! After Tool, the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.

The Avengers Hype Begins: Check Out A Short Promotional Clip Plus Some New Stills0

The_Avengers_Movie_PosterThe Avengers may not be bursting into cinemas until just under a year from now, but as anyone who stuck around after the end credits of Captain America knows, Marvel has already begun promoting the forthcoming gathering of superheroes with a brief clip highlighting all the heroes in action.

A shorter version of the clip that was attached to the end of Captain America has now found its way online over at Yahoo, but before you jump right to it and devour the footage with your Avengers starved retinas, you should be aware of one thing, the clip begins with a sequence that is essentially the final scene from Captain America. So if you haven’t seen Captain America yet, then you may want to hold off on clicking play below.

Otherwise if you do indeed decide to check out the footage, you’ll be treated to a sneak peek at how the entire team looks in rapid succession. It is undeniably cool, although it doesn’t reveal any details in terms of who we can expect the team to be butting heads with, which I guess is a good thing. What’s the point in revealing who the key villain/s will be now when there’s still so much hype and intrigue already surrounding the matter.

Either way, I simply couldn’t be more excited for this film! Seriously guys, don’t screw this up!

Check the clip out below, followed by a bunch of stills of the team:

See The Trailer For Peter Berg’s Battleship Here0

battleship_posterRemember that old board game Battleship you used to pull out to play with the family on rainy days. Of course you do, you probably have a copy of it stored away in a closet somewhere. Well turns out director Peter Burg has adapted it into a multimillion dollar action blockbuster. Yeah, I know, Hollywood will literally turn anything into a movie these days.

Taking a page out of Michael Bay’s pages, Battleship looks to feature seriously overblown action sequences that will pit the US Navy up against some sort of intergalactic robot threat. Think Transformers, only based on a board game rather than a series of toys…

It looks as ridiculous as it sounds, but it still emits an undeniably cheesy sense of fun. And as goofy as it looks, I actually appreciated the fact that the film goes to lengths to actually pay homage to the original game visually.

But what are your thoughts? Will this over the top outing get your money? Or will you stick to the board game?

Peter Berg directs the film, with Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, Josh Pence, Jesse Plemons and Peter MacNicol starring in the film.

New Tales From The Crypt TV Series Headed For Production0

tales_from_the_cryptFifteen years on since the much loved HBO horror anothology series came to an end, it appears as though Tales From The Crypt is about to be granted a second life.

Co-producers Gil Adler and Andy Cosby recently announced the resurrection of the cult show and shed a few details about it. They revealed that not only would the show have nothing to do with the original series, it would also no longer be presented in an anthological fashion. And furthermore, the show’s episodes would now run for hour long, as opposed to the half hour duration the original HBO series adopted.

Cosby had the following to say about the revival of the beloved show:

“It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context,” Cosby said. “It’s all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences.”

For those unlucky souls who missed out on the show first time around, Tales From The Crypt was Based on the controversial EC Comics from the 1950′s and was all about serving up short slices of of tasteless horror, often complete with humorous undertones.

So with that startling and enticingly surprising cat out of the bag, what are your thoughts? I couldn’t be happier to see the show make a return, however I hope it doesn’t end up being comperable to the crappy newer episodes of The Twilight Zone. Also if the Crypt Keeper doesn’t make an appearance, then count me out!

New Poster and NSFW Trailer For Kevin Smith’s Red State Hit The Net0

red_state_poster To hype up the imminent release of Kevin Smith’s Red State (it hits video on demand in September, followed by a brief theatrical run in October), a new eye-catching  promotional poster has been released for it (which you can admire to the left), alongside an brand new NSFWish trailer.

Now just a word on the trailer, if you are indeed excited to see the film then you might want to give the trailer a miss. It’s a little spoilerish and gives away a little more than desired. Consider yourself forewarned…

Red State begins by following three horny high-school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying “holy” force with a fatal agenda.

Kevin Smith To Host Own TV Show0

kevin_smithSeeing as how Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, the upcoming Red State) as already tried his hand at directing, acting, podcasting and recently, hosting an Internet radio show, I can’t say I’m really surprised to hear that he’s gearing up to host his own TV show.

Word is that the director is developing a half hour talk show that would comprise of celebrity chat and his own brand of politically incorrect humor. Smith’s even been busy asking his fans on Twitter if they’d like to come along to be part of the audience.

Vulture managed to get their hands on a copy of the email that the show’s booking staff have been sending to potential guests which you can check out below:

“Smith’s reps are telling celebs that the tentatively titled Kevin Smith Project will be “a daily 30-minute entertainment talk show for syndication … The idea is a Regis and Kelly talk show at the opposite end of the day for the opposite kind of audience — the 12-34 demo. Kevin and his co-host will talk water-cooler topics at the top of the show, followed by a celebrity interview and a comedy segment from the field (a la The Daily Show). Each show will feature one celebrity interview.” The message also gives a hint as to which studios might be behind the project: “The show is being positioned to air following TMZ, in the 6-8pm time period on the Fox stations in all the major markets.” TMZ hails from Warner Bros. Television’s Telepictures unit, so that studio could be a likely home for Smith; the Fox stations also could be behind the show via their sister studio, Twentieth Television. (Vulture is in the process of contacting those studios and we’ll update you if we find out more specifics, including the identity of the aforementioned co-host: Will it be Scott Mosier, his partner for his online SModcasts? Or a reunion with Jay?)”

I can’t say that I’m too surprised by this move at all to be honest. Smith has been vocal about how he’s grown progressively tired of directing, and he’s stated on multiple occasions during his podcast that he’d be happy to give up directing and focus on his podcast network (which has recently evolved into an internet radio show). So taking the step to TV hosting seems like the next logical step for him to make. And I know he’s taken a lot of heat lately, especially over the Red State self distribution issue, but I honestly think he’d make a great talk show host. He’s funny and honest, but more importantly, he always speaks his mind, which would make a refreshing change from the majority of uninteresting talk show hosts out there.

Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great And The Powerful Heads Into Production And Gets A Synopsis0

wizard-of-oz

Sam Raimi’s directorial foray into the much loved land of Oz with Oz: The Great And The Powerful has finally moved into production. Walt Disney Pictures announced the news today, and along with this, released a synopsis for the film:

“Oz The Great and Powerful” imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

With an impressive cast comprised of James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams, and with Raimi directing, there’s a lot to look forward to here. One can only imagine the crazy sights and sounds Raimi will subject us to when we finally get to return to the land of Oz.

A release date of March 8, 2013 has been announced for the film.

New Gory [Rec]: Genesis Still Released0

Sure, the found footage genre may have been done to death by this stage, but the [Rec] series thus far has still managed to stand out from the crowd by constantly adopting a hopelessly bleak sense of dread throughout, and featuring enough inspired scares to keep even the most jaded horror fan on their toes. I’m a huge fan of the series to say the least (even of the deliriously insane sequel), so I’m hoping that the third installment, [Rec]: Genesis, manages to bring the same sense of unparalleled terror to the table once more.

And to hype up the film, Director Paco Plaza has released the following image from [Rec]: Genesis on his Twitter account:

 rec_genesis_image_new

Yeah, nothing too revealing, just another bloodthirsty creep who’s probably looking to snack on some more unfortunate soul. But cool none the less. The synopsis for the film is as follows:

REC: Genesis takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future REC: APOCALYPSE.

There’s been no official release date announced for [Rec]: Genesis as of yet.

Check Out The Trailer For Joe Lynch’s Knights Of Badassdom0

knights_of_badassdom_still

After having just recently been unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con, it seems as though all I’ve been hearing about is how awesome the brand new horror/comedy Knights Of Badassdom looks. And now that the trailer has finally been unleashed, I can see why. There’s nothing intellectually sound about this genre mash-up, instead all it promises to deliver is a lethal dose of Army Of Darkness style fun along with plenty of laughs. And judging by the trailer, it looks to make true on both of those promises.

Directed by Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End), Knights Of Badassdom stars Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, Summer Glau (below), Peter Dinklage, Margarita Levieva, Jimmi Simpson, Danny Pudi, Brett Gipson and Michael Gladis.

Check out the synopsis and the trailer below:

Wolf Creek 2 May Finally Be Heading Into Prduction0

wolf-creek-2-posterWhen Greg Mclean’s debut feature film Wolf Creek gushed into cinemas back in 2005, it certainly rattled its fair share of nerves. The bleak and uncompromising sense of dread it exuded, along with its vicious mean streak meant it was solidified as a truly effective and memorable genre outing. It’s realistic approach allowed it stand apart from the weaker horror films doing the rounds at the time, plus it put John Jarratt’s portrayal of serial killer Mick Taylor on the map as a genuinely frightening movie maniac.

And after repeated attempts at trying to get a sequel off the ground, it looks as though Wolf Creek 2 may finally be heading our way.

During the weekend at the Melbourne International Film Festival, Screen Australia CEO Ruth Harley announced that a sequel was indeed set to be financed. Harley went on to state that the location of the announcement was relevant to the new “compelling slate of screen productions.”

He went on to confirm that; Three of the new features hail from Victoria, including Greg Mclean’s film Wolf Creek 2, which will once again bring horror, action and suspense to the outback.

I can tell you right now that I’m definitely down for a sequel. As long as Mclean approaches it in a slightly different fashion to ensure things stay fresh I feel it could yield promising results. Just please don’t turn Wolf Creek into a Friday The 13th style franchise that never ends…

So what do you think? Would you watch a Wolf Creek 2? Did you even enjoy the original?
