For A Few Movies More

Well it looks as though John McClane is about to find himself stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time once again. Reports from Twitch have stated that the fifth installment of the series will see Mclane heading over to Russia to take on a group of ruthless international terrorists. The plot is said to bring McClane’s son back into the action, who together with his father travel over to Russia only to be embroiled in yet another unlikely action packed scenario. 

Seriously how many more times can this premise be dragged out for? Don’t get me wrong, I love the Die Hard movies and there’s a good chance I’ll probably love this one upon release, but poor John Mclane has been thrust into the middle of every kind of terrorist plot by this stage, and one can only wonder how long it’ll be until we see McClane buzzing around in outer space Moonraker style while battling intergalactic terrorists. On second thought, somebody make that happen!

So who’s directing this gig you ask? Well that has yet to be determined, however a shortlist of possible has bee released to give an idea of who may take over the directing reigns. The possible candidates have been narrowed down to John Moore (MAX PAYNE), Joe Cornish (ATTACK THE BLOCK), Justin Lin (Fast Five) and Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson).

That’s a pretty diverse list to say the least, especially with the inclusion of Nicolas Winding Refn who’s better known for his smaller, character based productions over any mega-budget action films.

As harsh as this may be, I’d prefer to see any of these guys except John Moore get the job. I could imagine any of other directors churning out a solid action film (especially in the case of Justin Lin) or an entirely unique and unexpected take on the Die Hard franchise (Joe Cornish and Nicolas Winding Refn in particular). But Moore has failed to impress time and time again. And considering his last directorial outing was the beyond horrible Max Payne, the movie Gods are not smiling favorably upon him.

But the real question is, who would you like to see end up directing Die Hard 5?
